You’ve probably been told that you “should” start a blog at some point in your life. Maybe you’ve even been convinced that it’s the best way to share your ideas and connect with others.
But is starting a blog the right decision for you? This blog post will discuss 10 reasons why you should not start a blog (and why they’re wrong). We’ll also provide some tips for those of you who are interested in blogging!

- 3) You’re not a good writer
- 4) Everyone will ignore your blog

- 6) It’s too much work for little return

- 8) The cost of starting a blog is too high
- 9) Blogging isn’t worth your time or effort

- Conclusion
1) You don’t have anything interesting to say
You may think you have nothing interesting to say. That’s what people said about me, too. Before, I had never written a blog post and didn’t know where to start.
Hereโs the thing:
I know this because once I stopped thinking about how my posts would be judged, I started focusing on providing value for readers. And they weren’t just there out of pity or obligation; they were genuinely interested in learning from my content. Instead, I became a better writer and got more readers!
Blogging is about sharing yourself, not impressing others with what you know – or even worse: trying to convince them that your way of thinking is correct (it’s not).
Don’t you have anything interesting to say? Start writing anyways!
I guarantee that if you do it long enough, there will come a day when someone will appreciate your thoughts and share them with others.
Start a blog anyways!
You won’t regret it ๐
2) You can’t blog regularly
Blaming a lack of time is one of the people’s most common excuses for not blogging. They say things like, “I wish I had the time to start a blog, but I just don’t.” or “There’s no way I could blog every day. That’s just too much work.”
But the truth is, if you want to start a blog, you’ll find a way to make time for it. To succeed, you must maintain consistency and publish new information on a regular basis. And if you can’t commit to blogging every day, start with three times a week or even once a week.
So if you’re saying, “I don’t have time to start a blog,” then stop making excuses and do it.
If you don’t have time to start a blog, then stop making excuses and do it.
You can always find ways to make more time for the important things.
And if you’re not sure how to get started, there are plenty of online tutorials and courses covering all aspects of blogging.
If you’re unsure how much time or energy you have available right now, then maybe now isn’t the best time for starting another project like this one.
But if you’re willing to make a commitment and put in the work, then starting a blog is definitely something worth considering.
3) You’re not a good writer
Not everyone is indeed born a gifted writer. Many people struggle with the basics of grammar and sentence structure. But that doesn’t mean you can’t learn to be a good writer. Anyone can enhance their writing skills with practice, patience, and a willingness to learn.
That’s not to say that writing will come quickly for everyone. Being an excellent writer takes a lot of effort. But if you’re willing to put in the time, you’ll find that your skills improve with each passing day.
You may even discover that writing is more fun than you thought it would be! Remember, the key to improving your writing skills is simply not giving up.
Your hard effort will eventually pay off, and people will notice if you stick at it. For now, though, focus on learning how to string words together in an engaging, informative way. It may not be easy, but it’s worthwhile in the end.
You can become a great blogger with a bit of time and effort! So don’t let the fear of being a lousy writer stop you from starting your blog. Remember to have fun with it and not take things too seriously. After all, blogging should be enjoyable for both you and your readers.
And who knows? Perhaps one day, people will read.
4) Everyone will ignore your blog
Everyone knows that doing is the best way to learn. But what if you’re too afraid to do? What if you don’t have anything valuable to say? Or what if everyone ignores your blog anyway?
These are common fears among would-be bloggers, and they’re all valid concerns. But they’re also unfounded.
Start a blog today for several reasons even if you’re not sure it will be successful.
- Blogging can improve your writing skills.
- Blogging can help you learn new things and grow as a person.
- Blogging can help you connect with potential employers or clients.
- Blogging allows you to express and share your ideas with the world.

There are many reasons why blogs are important. Not only do they help you with your personal and professional development, but they also help you connect with other people who share your interests.
And those are just the tip of the iceberg! In short, if you want to be a successful blogger, you need to start a blog. It’s as simple as that.
So what are you waiting for? Go ahead! And if you’re stuck with the right resources, I’ve got a bunch to help you get started. You won’t regret it.
5) Blogging is too competitive
Blogging is a highly competitive field. There are countless bloggers out there, all vying for attention. If you’re not careful, you’ll quickly find yourself drowned in the noise.
You may do a few things to make your blog stand out, but it’s going to be an uphill battle. If you’re not prepared for that, then blogging is not the right path for you.
You can easily avoid competition by writing about something that hasn’t been written about yet. The best way is to write a blog post on the topic you’re interested in. This will ensure that your content stands out from all the other blogs in your niche, and it will also give you more authority within your industry.
Your blog can also promote your business or personal brand. This will help you attract more traffic and increase your chances of success. Creating a blog is easy, but maintaining it takes time and effort. Make sure you’re prepared for this by setting aside enough resources before starting a new project.
Again!
If you’re looking for competition, then go ahead and start a blog. But if you’re looking for a quiet, easy path that’s full of sunshine and rainbows, then you’re going to be very disappointed.
The fact is, blogging is highly competitive. It’s one of the most challenging careers out there. If you’re not ready for that challenge, then don’t bother starting a blog at all. It will be hard, and it won’t be fun. You’ll be competing with some of the best writers out there, so you’ll need to bring your A-game if you want to make any headway.
And even if you do manage to get some traction, there’s no guarantee that it’ll last. So make sure that you’re prepared for all eventualities before you jump into the deep end of the pool!
Maybe you’re thinking: “But what about those people who have made a lot of money from blogging? They can’t be wrong!”
Well, actually, they can be wrong. Just because someone has had success with something doesn’t mean that it will work for everyone. And just because some people make a lot of money from blogging doesn’t mean that you will too. The vast majority of bloggers don’t make any money at all.
Some people have indeed made a lot of money from blogging, but it is also true that many others haven’t.
A blog isn’t going to be a cash cow overnight. You have to put in the work if you want results!
If you’re unwilling to do that, blogging is not for you. And if you’re still reading this article, then I assume that means you are determined to start a blog, despite all these warnings.
Well, then go ahead and do it! But be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. And don’t say I didn’t warn you…
It may seem like an easy path to start a blog, but it is actually one of the most challenging careers out there.
But when you start a blog, you’re opening a big world of opportunity for you!
6) It’s too much work for little return
Many people think blogging is too much work for little return. But they’re wrong! Blogging can be a very rewarding experience, both personally and professionally.
Here is ONE big reason why you should ignore the naysayers and start your own blog today:
Blogging takes time, but it can also save you time by cutting out all the things that waste your time every day (checking social media sites like Facebook or Twitter) while still giving you access to them when necessary (by checking them on your phone).
And because of all the extra information available online these days, bloggers often spend less time researching than writers did in the past–which means more free time for other pursuits!
So if you’re seeking to make your life more efficient, blogging is definitely the answer.
7) You can’t think of a good domain or blog name
It’s hard enough to develop a good domain name, much less a blog name. If you can’t think of anything good, it’s best not to start a blog at all. You’ll only cause frustration and disappointment for yourself.
But wait.
There’s no reason first to find the perfect domain name or blog name. The whole point of blogging is getting your message out there and connecting with people as soon as possible.
Keep it simple: use your name at first, like I did with MaySanPedro.com (I was initially “Trudy Pepper’s Secret Journal”) or use something generic like “Best Marketing Blog.” You can always change it later.
Make a list of good domain names right now and hold on to them for the future, but don’t let finding a domain name stop you from getting started today.
Domain names and blog names are essential, but they’re not everything.
8) The cost of starting a blog is too high
Starting a blog is an investment that may not pay off. Blogging, like any business, has its risks and rewards. The risk of starting a blog lies in the fact that it costs money to start one (you’ll need to purchase or lease web hosting space, buy domain registration services, invest in good blogging software). Maintaining your blog also takes time and energy – you can’t expect instant results.
What are the rewards?
Like any other business venture, if you put in enough time and effort into blogging, there will be some payoff for your efforts (which could range from increased traffic numbers to more followers/subscribers). And as long as your blog covers a topic about which people feel passionate, you could generate some decent revenue from it.
It’s all about choosing your niche and sticking to itโฆand eventually making money with your blog by selling ad space or charging for content or services (or both). The challenge is how long will it take before you see results? How much are you willing to devote to blogging before you see a return on that investment?
You could also argue that blogging is one of the best ways to improve your writing skills. Start a blog if you wish to improve your writing skills.
If you’re not passionate about the topic you choose for your blog, it will show in your writing โ and people won’t stick around for long.
So before you go any further and invest time (and money) into starting a blog, consider these questions:
- Do you have a strong interest in your subject?
- Are you willing to put in the time and effort needed to make a blog successful?
If so, then go for it!
If not, maybe blogging isn’t for you. Blogging takes dedication โ but if you’re passionate enough about your topic, I believe that anyone can be a blogger.
9) Blogging isn’t worth your time or effort
Blogging is hard work, but it’s also rewarding. The benefits are worth the effort.
However, that doesn’t mean you should start blogging before you’re ready to commit to it in both time and money.
If you want to spread your ideas with the world, or want an online journal to document your life, blogging is a great option. It can also be a great way to make money if you do it correctly.
On the other hand, starting a blog may not be worth your time or effort for the following reasons:
- You don’t have enough knowledge about what you want to blog about or how to make money from blogging.
- It can take months before you see any profit from blogging which can discourage people from starting with their blogs.
- Blogging takes up a lot of time–time that could be spent on other things like family or friends.
- You’d need an online business plan to make money with blogging; without one, it’s just not worth the effort.
10) You’ll never be as successful as Pat Flynn
You’ll never be as successful as Pat Flynn. He’s a great example of what you can achieve with a blog if you’re willing to put in the hard work. His success didn’t come overnight – it took years of dedication and effort to build the blog he has today. If you’re not ready for that kind of commitment, then it’s best not to start a blog at all.
But even if you are prepared to put in the effort, there’s still no guarantee that your blog will take off as Pat’s did. His story is inspiring, and you can use it as motivation. Realistically, this brings us back to our original point: If you want something easy or quick, blogging is not the way to go.
A blog is not for everyone, but we’ll stop here for now. If you’re still convinced that blogging is right for you after reading this post, then head over to our guide on how to start a blog and get started!
But before you do that, we’d love to hear from you: Why do YOU think people should start blogs? Let us know in the comments!
The Bottom Line: You’ll never be as successful as Pat Flynn because we all create our own success. And if your goal isn’t fame or fortune, then go for it! Blogging can be a very rewarding experience even if you’re not making money from it (though that would be nice too!).
Conclusion
There are many reasons why you shouldn’t start a blog, but they’re all wrong. Blogging can be a gratifying experience if done correctly and consistently over time–and that’s what makes it so valuable!
I understand if you’re undecided about starting a blog. Some people are hesitant for various reasons, and I’ve detailed 10 of them below. It’s important to remember that these arguments against starting a blog aren’t all wrong–they just don’t apply to everyone.
It could be that your job doesn’t allow you to, maybe blogging isn’t suitable for you. But if there is no reason other than “I’m scared” then get started!
It’s a great way to share your thoughts, ideas, and passions with the world. Let’s go! You’ll never know until you try.
